Everton Fans Create New Chant After Merseyside Derby Victory

Everton fans are reveling in the glory of their Merseyside derby victory on Wednesday night, with a new song aimed at their rivals, Liverpool. The Toffees took a significant step towards Premier League safety with a 2-0 win over Jürgen Klopp’s team – their first derby triumph since 2010.

Goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were sufficient to overcome the Reds on a historic night at Goodison Park. The outcome has severely damaged Liverpool’s title aspirations, who now trail leaders Arsenal by three points with only four games remaining. Manchester City trails Klopp’s team by one point but has two games in hand, which could potentially see them leapfrog both Liverpool and Arsenal in the title race.

Even though the Reds’ title hopes may not be over yet, some Everton supporters are convinced that Wednesday’s defeat was fatal – so much so that a new song was created to mock their city rivals.

Everton supporter Conor was present at Goodison Park for the match and shared his thoughts on the new chant before performing a rendition that has since become viral.

“We were able to relax a little bit when the second goal went in,” he stated on Wednesday evening to The Sports Bar. “At 85 minutes [on the clock], we started singing ‘You lost the league at Goodison Park’ a little too soon for my liking.”

When requested to sing the song live on air, Conor happily complied, and it’s fair to say that it quickly caught on with Sports Bar presenters Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara, who couldn’t resist joining in.

For Conor and many other Toffees fans who have had little to cheer about this season, it was all lighthearted fun. Due to breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, Sean Dyche’s team was penalized eight points, putting them deep in a relegation battle for the third consecutive season.

However, back-to-back victories at home in four days have given Everton a lifeline and an eight-point lead over Luton Town, who are in 18th place.

Before crucial matches against fellow strugglers Luton and Sheffield United, Everton will be hoping to complete a hat-trick of home victories on Saturday when Brentford visits Goodison.
