Exascend, a company specializing in server-focused storage and memory solutions, has just announced a remarkable advancement in the world of solid-state drives (SSDs). They’ve introduced a massive 15.36TB 2.5-inch SATA SSD, significantly expanding the capacity limits of this popular storage interface. This new drive, part of Exascend’s SA4, SI4, and SE4 series, is designed to cater to the demanding needs of applications such as digital and network video recorders, media post-production, and other data-intensive tasks.
This groundbreaking SSD utilizes 3D TLC NAND flash technology, enabling Exascend to achieve such an incredible storage capacity. To maintain consistent read and write performance, Exascend employs a direct write-to-TLC approach, effectively mitigating any performance degradation that might occur when the SLC cache is exhausted. The SSD’s high-density design integrates 16 NAND Flash ICs, each boasting a 1TB capacity, onto a single PCB within a slim 7mm housing. This innovative design maximizes storage density while also incorporating hardware-based power loss protection (PLP), safeguarding data even during unexpected power outages.
Exascend further enhances the performance of its new SSDs by incorporating its proprietary SuperCruise technology, which significantly boosts write speeds. For added data security, the company offers optional TCG Opal 2.01 encryption. Exascend highlights that these features make their SA4, SI4, and SE4 series ideal replacements for traditional HDDs, offering superior performance and reliability. For applications demanding even higher endurance, the SSDs are also available in pseudo SLC (pSLC) mode, supporting capacities up to 3.84 TB with a remarkable endurance rating of 5 DWPD.
The new Exascend SA4, SI4, and SE4 series, available in capacities up to 15.36TB, are now ready for ordering. This latest innovation from Exascend sets a new standard for SATA SSD storage, offering unprecedented capacity and performance for demanding applications in various industries.
