Experience Authentic Japanese Culture at Shimogamo Villa with Kyoto Noh Dining 2024

Immerse yourself in the heart of Japanese culture at the historic Shimogamo Villa, Kyoto. This autumn, HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO is hosting the exclusive “Kyoto Noh Dining 2024,” an unforgettable evening blending exquisite cuisine, captivating performance, and serene surroundings.

Over four evenings, guests will be treated to a bespoke dinner crafted by Chef Tetsuya Asano, a rising star in the culinary world who will represent Japan at the prestigious Bocuse d’Or 2027. Accompanying this gastronomic delight is a live Noh performance, one of Japan’s oldest and most revered traditional art forms. Led by acclaimed Noh performer and lecturer Haruna Tanaka, the performance offers a unique insight into Noh’s rich history, intricate plays, and symbolic masks and costumes. English explanations ensure a captivating and enriching experience for those new to this art form.

Designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 2001, Noh boasts a captivating 600-year history, blending rhythmic chant, graceful dance, and evocative music. The performance will showcase the elegance and dynamism of the Kongo School, tracing its lineage to the Sakatoh-za sarugaku troupe of the Horyu-ji and Kofuku-ji temples in Nara.

Following the performance, guests will savor a traditional Japanese bento box dinner, showcasing the freshest Kyoto ingredients. Chef Asano’s renowned salmon and salmon roe dish, paired with exquisite wines, adds another layer of delight to the evening.

The experience concludes with the opportunity to explore the villa itself. Admire its classical Japanese architecture, stroll through its tranquil garden, and ascend the watchtower for breathtaking nighttime views of the Higashiyama ridges.
