Tragic Mountaineering Accident Claims Life in Northern Italy
A seasoned mountaineer, Monica Reginato, has tragically passed away after a fatal fall in northern Italy. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 20, at the popular ski resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Reginato, who was 55 years old and hailed from Castelfranco, was hiking with three companions when the accident occurred. Despite being equipped with safety equipment, including crampons, she slipped into a rocky ravine and plunged approximately 1,000 feet.
Emergency services were promptly notified, and a helicopter with medical personnel was dispatched to the scene. However, they could only confirm that Reginato had succumbed to her injuries and died instantaneously.
According to reports, Reginato had extensive mountaineering experience and had taught the discipline for over two decades. Rescuers utilized a 20-meter winch to retrieve her body from the gully, where she had fallen hundreds of meters.
