Express Closing Two Bay Area Stores Amid Bankruptcy Filing

Two Bay Area Express retail stores are closing due to the retailer filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, after 44 years of operation.

Express has announced the closure of 95 stores in the United States including 16 stores in California.

The stores that are set to close in the Bay Area are located in Santa Clara (2855 Stevens Creek Boulevard) and Emeryville (5680 Bay Street). The closures are scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

Express revealed that the company received a non-binding letter of intent from a consortium led by WHP Global to potentially purchase the majority of its stores. According to Express, the bankruptcy was filed to “facilitate the sale process.”
