Falkland Islands Secures Guaranteed Seats on Ascension Island Flights for Travelers

The Falkland Islands Government (FIG) has made travel to St Helena much easier for its residents. They have reached an agreement with the Ascension Island Government that guarantees ten seats on each flight of the St Helena Airlink for Falkland Islanders. This means that Falkland Islanders will no longer have to worry about being unable to book a seat on the flight connecting Ascension Island and St Helena.

To make the booking process even smoother, FIG has extended its partnership with the Falkland Islands Company (FIC), which now handles both Airbridge and Airlink bookings. Travelers can now book their entire journey, including both flights, through a single transaction with FIC. This streamlined process eliminates the complexities of dealing with multiple booking systems.

It’s important to note that this new arrangement doesn’t affect existing bookings on either the Airbridge or the St Helena Airlink. However, it is crucial to remember that traveling through Ascension Island to connect to the St Helena Airlink requires a transit e-visa. Travelers are responsible for obtaining this visa after booking their flights. These transit visas are valid for up to 7 days, so connecting flights must fall within this period.

To apply for a transit visa, travelers need to provide the following:

*

Note that the requirement for a sponsor in the e-visa application process does not apply to transit visas but is mandatory for all other types of Ascension e-visas.

Travelers are also encouraged to review St Helena’s entry policies before embarking on their journey.

FIC has updated their booking forms and their agents are ready to assist travelers with planning their trips. For more information or to book, travelers can contact FIC via email at [email protected], by phone at +500 27633, or by visiting the West Store offices during business hours.

MLA Mark Pollard emphasized the importance of this new agreement, stating, “This new agreement is vital for supporting connections between the Falklands and St Helena, particularly for Saints living here who will now find it easier to visit friends and family.”

Andy Williams, FIC Director, added: “We are pleased to support this new arrangement, which complements our ongoing work in assisting the Falklands community with Airbridge bookings. Our staff are here to help anyone considering this journey.”
