The Fallout franchise is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, fueled by the ongoing success of the Fallout TV show on Prime Video. Bethesda, the publisher of the Fallout video games, recently disclosed that almost five million players participated in Fallout games across all platforms on a single day. This resurgence includes the original Interplay-published Fallout titles, Bethesda’s Fallout 3, 4, and 76, Obsidian’s Fallout: New Vegas, and the mobile game Fallout Shelter.
Bethesda highlighted the success of Fallout 76, its most recent mainline Fallout game, which attracted over one million players in a single day. Data trackers have also indicated a revenue increase for Fallout Shelter.
The popularity of Fallout games is evident on Steam, where concurrent player numbers for all Fallout titles have spiked since the TV show’s release. Fallout 4 leads the pack, followed by Fallout 76 and Fallout: New Vegas.
With the upcoming release of the Fallout 4 next-gen update on April 25, the player count for that game is expected to rise even further. However, the creators of the highly anticipated mod Fallout London expressed disappointment over Bethesda’s announcement of the next-gen update release date, claiming they were caught off guard.
The Fallout TV show has been a critical and commercial success, with a second season already greenlit. The showrunners have hinted at the setting for Season 2 and discussed how they plan to navigate its relationship with the video games.
