Fallout Games Experience Surge in Players Following TV Series Launch

As anticipated, the estreno of the long-awaited Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime has ignited a resurgence of interest in the Fallout video game franchise. Players have flocked to various Fallout titles, not just the latest installment.

Fallout 4, released in 2015, has garnered immense popularity, peaking at over 83,000 concurrent players. Even Fallout 1, the inaugural game in the series, has experienced a surge, with a 553.3% increase in players on Steam. Fallout 3 has also witnessed a notable rise in players, with over 6,700 concurrent users over the weekend.

Fallout: New Vegas, developed by Obsidian Entertainment, has also garnered attention, reaching over 19,000 players following the TV show’s debut. Meanwhile, Fallout 76 has attained its all-time peak on Steam, hosting over 39,000 concurrent players. Bethesda has acknowledged a substantial influx of new players in Fallout 76 across multiple platforms.

This resurgence in popularity is particularly evident in Fallout 76, which was made free to play from April 11-18 and offered exclusive TV show cosmetics. Bethesda’s announcement of a next-gen update for Fallout 4, slated for release later this month, may have also contributed to the increased player base.

The correlation between video game adaptations and increased sales of their source material is further reinforced by this phenomenon. Similar trends were observed with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Last of Us franchise after their respective TV and HBO adaptations.

Bethesda continues to entice new players with ongoing discounts and promotions across platforms. On Steam, substantial discounts are available, including the Fallout Franchise Bundle for 77% off, offering all main Fallout games for a fraction of their original cost.

The Fallout TV series has not only rekindled interest in the existing Fallout games but has also welcomed a wave of new players. With the excitement surrounding the TV show continuing, it remains to be seen if the surge in popularity will sustain over the long term.
