Fallout Magic Crossover: ‘Probably’ Magic’s Most Successful Commander Set Ever

Commander sets have seen a significant rise in popularity, and the Fallout set has played a crucial role in this success. Hasbro’s CEO, Chris Cocks, has stated that the Fallout Commander set is “probably” Magic’s most successful Commander set ever, despite being smaller than premier sets.

The success of Magic: the Gathering is not limited to the Fallout crossover. The overall game is experiencing a resurgence, with pre-pandemic engagement levels being reached. This resurgence is attributed in part to the popularity of the Fallout set as well as the recently released Outlaws of Thunder Junction Commander set.

Hasbro is confident about the future of Magic crossovers, with upcoming collaborations including Final Fantasy and Marvel. Cocks believes that these sets will reach the same heights as the Lord of the Rings collaboration, which was a massive success. Marvel, in particular, is a huge IP, and Hasbro is excited about the multiple sets it will be releasing with the Walt Disney Company. Final Fantasy, on the other hand, has a strong following in North America and Europe, but its sales in Japan are expected to surpass those of Lord of the Rings due to its popularity in that market.

The Fallout crossover introduced a vast array of wasteland creatures into the world of collectible trading cards. Iconic characters like Dogmeat and Caesar received their own cards, along with references to Mr. House, Feral Ghouls, Deathclaws, V.A.T.S., radiation, Nuka-Cola, and more. The Fallout series has expanded into various mediums, with the Magic collaboration bringing card versions of beloved characters and Bethesda introducing a Fallout TV show on Amazon Prime.
