The family of a three-month-old baby killed in a wrong-way Highway 401 crash while his grandparents were visiting from India is mourning his death, remembering the “joy and happiness“ he brought them.
The baby, his grandparents, and his parents were involved in the multi-vehicle crash on April 29th, after a U-Haul cargo van being pursued by police for an alleged LCBO robbery in Clarington drove erratically onto the highway.
At a funeral in the east of Toronto on Wednesday, the baby’s aunt shared memories of the newborn, who she said was “content and calm,“ and rarely fussed.
“A loving rock from Ashwitha or a soother was all he needed,“ she said.
The baby’s parents also spoke out over the weekend, saying their family had been devastated by the loss.
“Our family is reeling from a devastating tragedy following a wrong-way crash involving a police chase,“ read a statement from the father, Gokulnath Manivannan.
“We are at a complete loss of words to describe the agony and vacuum in our hearts knowing we can never hold our child Aditya Vivaan, who gave us so many precious memories in such a short time, in our hands again.“
The 21-year-old driver of the U-Haul died at the scene, while a 38-year-old passenger was seriously injured. The Special Investigations Unit is investigating the fatal wreck.
