Far-Right Greek MP Arrested After Punch-Up in Parliament

Konstantinos Floros, a former member of the extreme Spartans Party, was arrested by the police after allegedly assaulting Vasilis Grammenos from the nationalist Greek Solution Party. The incident occurred during a parliamentary debate on whether to lift the immunity of MP Kyriakos Velopoulos, who is the president of the Greek Solution Party. Floros, who is now an independent MP, allegedly grabbed Grammenos in a headlock and punched him in the head, throwing him onto the floor. Grammenos was taken to the parliament’s medical clinic. The violence was condemned by the parliamentary speaker, who described it as “brutal behavior” and ordered Floros’ expulsion from parliament for 15 days. He also warned that Floros’ immunity will be lifted to face a possible lawsuit from his victim. The Spartans Party was later excluded from a list of political parties that have fulfilled the requirements to field candidates in the European Parliament election in June following a petition by three political parties alleging ties to the extreme-right Golden Dawn party.
