Farmers Demand Fair Probe into CISF Constable Slapping Incident Involving Kangana Ranaut
On Sunday, several farmer organizations, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, organized a march in Mohali to express their support for CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur, who allegedly slapped BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport.
Farmer leaders demanded an impartial probe into the incident and emphasized that there should be no injustice terhadap the constable. They criticized Ranaut for her alleged provocative statements against the people of Punjab, which Kaur found upsetting.
The CISF, responsible for providing security at airports, has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident. The Mohali Police have booked Kaur under bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful restraint.
In a video message on Thursday, Ranaut claimed she was hit and abused by the constable during a security check. She expressed concerns about the rise in terrorism and extremism in Punjab.
A video circulating on social media shows the agitated constable talking to people after the incident, expressing her support for the farmers’ protests and her belief that Ranaut’s earlier statement that the protesters were paid was disrespectful to her mother, who was among them.
The incident has sparked controversy and raised questions about the security measures at Chandigarh airport. The farmer organizations’ march and their support for the constable highlight the complex dynamics at play in the ongoing farmers’ protest and the political climate in Punjab.
