Farmers Protest: Protesters Rescued from atop Mobile Towers at Jantar Mantar

Protesters, including a woman, climbed atop mobile towers at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday, demanding better prices for their crops. The protesters were part of a group of farmers from Tamil Nadu who had gathered to stage a demonstration.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla, around 50 people had gathered at Jantar Mantar for the protest. The protesters demanded that their income from farm produce be doubled. They also sought a monthly pension of ₹5,000, individual insurance, and interlinking of all rivers in India.

Cranes from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) were brought in to rescue the protesters from the mobile towers. The DFS received a call about the incident at 9:34 a.m. and dispatched rescue teams to the spot. Two people, including a woman, were rescued from the first location. Another four persons were rescued from a second mobile tower.

No one was injured during the operation, according to DFS officials. The rescued protesters were brought down to the ground safely.
