Farmers Threaten Protests Against AAP Candidates Over Crop Compensation and Land Acquisition Issues

Activists of (BKU Ekta Ugrahan) have threatened to launch protests against AAP’s Lok Sabha election candidates if compensation for damage to crops due to rainfall and fair compensation for land acquisition for laying a gas pipeline were not released in a week’s time.

The farmer organisation set the deadline after meeting agriculture minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, the AAP candidate from Bathinda, on Monday. The farmers have been protesting for their demands outside the Bathinda district administrative complex for the last 18 days.

Shingara Singh Mann, president, BKU (Ektra Ugrahan), Bathinda, said that they have repeatedly met the minister and every time he gave assurances, but nothing has been done since they began their protest from April 4.

“We will wait for one more week. If the demands are not met, we will take on the AAP candidates in villages.”

In the meantime, farmers confronted Hans Raj Hans, the BJP candidate from Faridkot parliamentary constituency, at Buttar Sharih village in Gidderbaha assembly segment, which is part of Faridkot. The farmers posed questions to him.

One of them asked him why the BJP govt in Haryana had denied farmers access to reach Delhi to hold their protests? They also asked why BJP has failed to keep its assurances about the legal right of MSP on all crops as per C2+50% formula according to the Swaminathan commission recommendations.
