A tragic scooter accident has claimed the life of a 41-year-old man in Salt Lake City. Ismael Ontivaros was struck by a car while riding his electric scooter near 800 West and North Temple on Sunday, April 21st, just before 9 p.m. The preliminary investigation suggests that the car was traveling west on North Temple when it collided with Ontivaros.
First responders from the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross rushed to the scene to provide life-saving aid to Ontivaros. He was then transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Sadly, the Salt Lake City Police Department confirmed on Monday that Ontivaros succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police suspect that impairment may have been a contributing factor. The 22-year-old male driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No arrests or citations have been issued at this time.
This tragic incident marks the fourth traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City in 2024, highlighting the importance of road safety and responsible driving.
