The father of a postgraduate trainee doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the West Bengal government’s response to the incident. He claimed that his daughter’s body was cremated in a hurry, raising concerns about a possible cover-up. He also alleged that the entire hospital system was involved in the case and that the authorities were not cooperating with the family.
The father expressed his disappointment with the ongoing investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), stating that no meaningful progress had been made. He also criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying her promises of justice were not being fulfilled. The family refused to accept any compensation offered by the government.
The victim’s mother revealed that her daughter had expressed reluctance about going to the hospital in the days leading up to the attack. She said her daughter had complained about not liking the hospital anymore. The mother also criticized the authorities for not allowing the family to see their daughter’s face before the cremation, citing an ongoing investigation as the reason. She felt this was an attempt to hide the severity of the injuries and expressed her belief that many more individuals were involved in the crime.
The body of the doctor was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer the following day in connection with the case. The Calcutta High Court, dissatisfied with the Kolkata Police’s investigation, directed the CBI to take over the probe. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and protests in Kolkata, with the family and public demanding swift justice for the victim.
