The Pakistan Cricket Board has made a significant decision ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled for October 3-20 in the UAE. 22-year-old all-rounder Fatima Sana has been appointed as the new captain, replacing the experienced Nida Dar. This change in leadership comes after a period of subpar performances for the Pakistani team, which saw them suffer T20I and ODI series defeats in England followed by a semi-final exit at the Women’s Asia Cup last month.
Despite the captaincy change, Nida Dar has been retained in the squad. The team boasts a strong mix of players, with at least ten members having participated in the previous World Cup. Fatima Sana, who has already led Pakistan’s emerging and domestic teams, brings a fresh perspective and a proven track record of success. Her impressive performance in a Super Over victory against New Zealand in Christchurch last December further solidified her leadership qualities.
Pakistan faces a challenging group stage in the tournament, grouped alongside Australia, India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. This squad, led by Fatima Sana, will undoubtedly be eager to prove their mettle and challenge for the title.
