FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of VAR in Sunday’s match against Real Madrid.
Laporta stated that the club will request footage of a disputed play where Madrid goalkeeper Lunin appeared to have saved a shot from inside the goal. Depending on the findings from their analysis, they might consider asking for a rematch of the match.
Laporta criticized the use of VAR, saying that it takes away the spontaneity of football and causes confusion and inconsistent judgments. He emphasized that the league is successful but not immune to criticism when VAR undermines its integrity.
The president highlighted the controversial play in the 28th minute where Lunin’s shot from seemed to have gone in. He stated that Barcelona will request all the images and audio from the play from the Technical Committee of Referees and the Spanish Football Federation.
Laporta added that if the club finds an error, they will take necessary actions to correct it, including legal steps. He also mentioned that there were other questionable actions during the game that could have been reviewed by VAR, but the referee chose not to use it.
Finally, Laporta addressed the Barcelona fans, saying that the club’s decision is not taken lightly but is necessary due to the challenges and unfair situations they have experienced. He pointed out incidents on the field that have worked against Barcelona and favored their opponents, leading to the gap in points at the top of LaLiga.
