The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Noida has taken swift action in response to consumer complaints about food-related illness by raiding two popular eateries, McDonald’s and Theobroma Bakery. The complaints, lodged through the Food Safety Connect portal of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), prompted a prompt response from FDA officials.
One complaint stemmed from a customer who reported feeling unwell after allegedly consuming an aloo tikki burger and french fries from the McDonald’s outlet located in Noida Sector 18. In response, FDA officials visited the outlet to gather food samples, including palm oil, cheese, and mayonnaise, for testing.
Separately, a woman reported falling sick after allegedly consuming a stale cake purchased from Theobroma Bakery in Noida Sector 104. The FDA promptly collected a sample of the cake for laboratory testing upon receiving the complaint.
FDA Assistant Commissioner (Food) Gautam Buddh Nagar, Archana Dheeran, stated that the FDA will register a case if the laboratory results indicate that the samples do not meet safety standards. The FDA anticipates receiving the laboratory report within a month.
The FDA’s action in Uttar Pradesh came after orders from the District Magistrate (DM) to ensure the quality of food sold at outlets in the state. The raid team included Food Safety Officers Ram Naresh, Mukesh Kumar, Vijay Bahadur Patel, and others.
