Federal Probe of Former Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger Concludes with No Charges
Federal officials have closed their investigation into former Ohio House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger, a Republican from Wilmington. The investigation was launched in 2018 following reports that Rosenberger was under scrutiny for his travel and spending practices while in public office. Rosenberger consistently maintained his innocence throughout the investigation.
In a letter to Rosenberger’s legal representatives, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Kenneth Parker stated that ‘extremely unique facts and circumstances’ led him to determine that Rosenberger is no longer the subject or target of the investigation. Parker did not provide further details regarding the decision.
Rosenberger expressed immense gratitude to his family and friends for their steadfast support during the last six years. He stated that he is immensely relieved to be vindicated of all charges.
Rosenberger was elected Ohio House Speaker in 2015. He resigned three years later following the seizure of state records by federal investigators, which documented his out-of-state travel.
The closure of the federal investigation marks a significant development in the case, indicating that the authorities have found no evidence of wrongdoing to warrant charges against Rosenberger.
