The São Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW) N58 might have wrapped up its runway shows at the Pavilhão das Culturas Brasileiras, but the spirit of fashion lingered on. In a poignant twist, Fernanda Yamamoto chose the historic Japanese Pavilion, celebrating its 70th anniversary, to showcase her own brand’s 15th anniversary. This symbolic choice reflected a powerful message of heritage and celebration.
The runway unfolded with a captivating performance by Taiko drummers, setting the stage for a moving choral presentation featuring poems curated by Yamamoto herself. This unique prelude set the tone for a show that embraced diversity, with friends, family, and clients of the brand walking the runway, each sporting bespoke creations tailored to their unique personalities.
Fernanda shared, “It’s impossible to ignore the influence of my roots. Today, I aimed to reference that history, but with an eye towards the present and the future.” This philosophy manifested in her designs – deconstructed kimonos, geometric silhouettes, and fluid pleats, all imbued with a sense of grace and elegance. The collection was further adorned with delicate embroidery showcasing cherry blossom and Ginkgo Biloba motifs, adding a touch of ethereal beauty. The inclusion of a golden hue, a departure from Yamamoto’s usual palette, added a celebratory shimmer to the collection.
Adding a special touch, the show featured exclusive, custom-made “bento” bags designed by Gabriela Sakate, crafted from pleated leather and paper. The event culminated in a heartwarming celebration, with families and friends gathering to witness the heartwarming showcase of individuality and creativity.
This event exemplified the essence of fashion – a fusion of history, passion, and inclusivity, designed for everyone. It is a testament to the power of fashion to unite and celebrate the tapestry of human experience. As we look forward to the future seasons, Yamamoto’s inclusive vision and her commitment to storytelling through fashion offer a beacon of inspiration and hope.
