Fetterman Backs Romney for Harvard President Amid Antisemitism Concerns

Senator John Fetterman has joined the chorus of voices supporting the candidacy of retiring Senator Mitt Romney for the presidency of Harvard University.

The endorsement comes amidst ongoing concerns about antisemitism on the Ivy League campus. Fetterman expressed his support in a statement, citing recent incidents at Columbia University and suggesting that Romney’s leadership could help “recalibrate” academia away from “far-left orthodoxy.”

Romney’s potential candidacy has gained traction following an op-ed by former American Jewish Congress president Daniel Rosen. Rosen, a lifelong Democrat, emphasized Romney’s profile in courage, independence, and commitment to addressing antisemitism. He believes Romney’s unique character and experience would enable him to navigate necessary reforms at Harvard.

While neither Harvard nor Romney has officially commented on the matter, Rosen highlighted Romney’s bipartisan track record. In the past, Romney has been the first Republican senator to vote for the conviction of a member of his own party during an impeachment trial. Rosen emphasized that while there are other qualified candidates, Romney’s bridge-building abilities are crucial in an era of polarization.

Romney, a Harvard alumnus, has a reputation as an eloquent and experienced administrator. Rosen expressed confidence that Romney would prioritize justice and defend what is right over political expediency.
