Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot is now the leading candidate to become the new manager of Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp will be departing from Anfield at the end of the current season, and the club has been busy contacting potential replacements. Slot has emerged as the top pick among a shortlist of three to seven candidates for the managerial position.
Slot has enjoyed successful stints at both Feyenoord and his previous club AZ. His accomplishments attracted the attention of Tottenham Hotspur last summer, but they eventually appointed Ange Postecoglou instead. Despite turning down Spurs’ offer last year in favor of a new contract, the 45-year-old is now prepared to leave the Dutch giants.
Xabi Alonso, who has decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, and Ruben Amorim, who is also a target for West Ham, have also been linked to the vacant Liverpool position. Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi remains a potential option for the club.
Liverpool is still considering other possibilities and views Bayern Munich as a potential competitor for Slot’s signature. The club is conducting a thorough search process, led by new chief executive of football Michael Edwards. Edwards, who previously worked at Liverpool between 2016 and 2022, is using data-driven analysis to guide his search efforts. New Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and director of research Will Spearman are also assisting in the process of finding Klopp’s successor.
