FIFA, the world governing body for football, announced on Thursday that it will host its first-ever FIFAe World Cup of Football Manager. This exciting new competition aims to crown the best virtual manager in the world on the highly popular video game, Football Manager.
FIFA has partnered with Sports Interactive, the developers of Football Manager, which has achieved massive success with millions of copies sold worldwide. The game has also been adopted by several football clubs as a tool for scouting players and analyzing opponents due to its extensive and detailed database.
Players participating in the FIFAe World Cup will compete for a total prize pool of $100,000, with the final event taking place from August 29 to September 1. Arsene Wenger, the former manager of Arsenal and an ambassador for the esports event, highlighted the strategic depth of the competition, stating, “This competition requires participants to demonstrate a profound understanding of football strategy and tactics. Success demands not only mastery of game mechanics but also in-depth football knowledge, making this format a fascinating blend.”
For the inaugural year of the FIFAe World Cup, selected FIFA member associations will be invited to be represented at the final event. Participants from all six confederations are expected to be invited, providing a truly global platform for virtual managers. Players interested in participating can sign up for the competition on FIFA’s official website.
