This September, the renowned Palais Galliera in Paris, home to one of the world’s most impressive fashion history collections, will be showcasing the beauty and artistry of Filipino fashion and culture. As part of Paris Fashion Week, Vogue Philippines is hosting a captivating event titled ‘Vogue Threads: Weaving Philippine Culture Into The World,’ a celebration of Filipino creativity on a global stage.
The exhibition, which takes place at the Palais Galliera, will feature a series of intricately crafted maquettes dressed in couture by 25 talented Filipino designers. The maquettes serve as miniature masterpieces, showcasing the exquisite materials and traditional dressmaking techniques that are integral to Philippine craftsmanship. Renowned designers such as Joey Samson, Mich Dulce, Ivarluski Aseron, and Abdul Gaffar, among others, will be represented in this spectacular display.
The Palais Galliera, a Parisian treasure, has a rich history of celebrating art and fashion. Originally built in the late 19th century by a French noblewoman, it was envisioned as a space to make art accessible to the public. Over the years, the museum has undergone renovations and transformed into a haven for fashion history, housing a vast collection of garments and accessories from renowned fashion houses across Europe and America, as well as historical pieces dating back to the 18th century. The Vogue Paris Foundation has been a generous supporter of the museum, donating over 100 pieces to its collection since 2014.
Now, the Palais Galliera opens its doors to Filipino talent, offering a platform for Philippine fashion to shine on the international stage. The Vogue Threads exhibition serves as a powerful testament to the artistry and cultural heritage of the Philippines, weaving its rich traditions into the global tapestry of fashion. The event will culminate in a celebratory dinner, bringing together leading figures from the Filipino creative scene, Conde Nast International editors, and renowned designers, journalists, and business partners from across the world, solidifying the Philippines’ place as a rising force in the international fashion landscape.
