Square Enix is on a mission to make Final Fantasy XIV accessible to as many players as possible. The publisher’s top-earning MMORPG has already made its way to Xbox platforms, marking a significant return after an 11-year absence. But Square Enix’s ambitions don’t stop there.
Rumors have been circulating about a mobile version of FFXIV, particularly for the Chinese market, in collaboration with Tencent. This could potentially lead to a North American release as well, offering a much-needed boost to Square Enix’s gaming segment, which has been largely driven by mobile and MMORPG revenue.
Now, whispers are swirling about Final Fantasy XIV arriving on Nintendo Switch or even the upcoming Switch 2. In a recent interview with Game Reactor, Final Fantasy XIV game director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida hinted at the possibility, emphasizing Square Enix’s desire to bring the game to a diverse range of platforms. “I’m sure that all of the media and our players probably suspecting they really want to have our game release on Nintendo’s consoles, but the concept that we have for Final Fantasy XIV is to release our game on as many devices as possible,” Yoshi-P said. “So looking towards achieving that goal. We are working towards, making progress and we are having discussions. So I hope that everyone can look forward to news in the time to come.”
While Square Enix has yet to officially confirm or announce Final Fantasy XIV for mobile or Nintendo Switch, the company’s ambitious plans and Yoshi-P’s statements suggest that these platforms are definitely being considered. If successful, this move could significantly expand the game’s reach and potentially introduce a whole new generation of players to the world of Eorzea.
