The Punjab Police have registered an FIR against a YouTube channel named ‘Capital TV’ for allegedly disseminating misleading content concerning the Delhi liquor scam and equating Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha with fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya. The complaint was filed by Vikas Prashar, the son of AAP candidate Ashok Pappi Prashar from the Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat. The complaint alleges that the channel has been running “misleading” news and defaming Chadha by equating him with Mallya, who fled to the UK after taking public money. The FIR also mentions that the channel referred to Chadha as a “Khalistani supporter” following his meeting with UK MP Preet Gill. The FIR has been registered under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which addresses promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, Section 469 for forgery, Section 505 for making statements likely to cause public mischief, and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act, which concerns computer-related offences.
