Five Indian Soldiers Killed in Kathua Terror Attack, Counter-Terror Operations Underway

Rajnath Singh, India’s Defence Minister, expressed deep anguish over the deaths of five Indian Army soldiers in a terrorist attack in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack occurred on Monday, and counter-terror operations are currently underway. Singh, in a statement on X, offered his condolences to the bereaved families and asserted that the nation stands united with them during this difficult time. He emphasized that the counter-terrorist operations are ongoing and that the Indian soldiers are committed to restoring peace and order in the region.

The attack targeted an army convoy in the Machedi area of Kathua district. Five soldiers were injured in the initial attack and later succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to five. One additional soldier sustained injuries during the encounter and is receiving treatment.

The incident comes amidst a growing trend of terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. In June, three terrorists were neutralized during an encounter with security forces in the Gandoh and Bhaderwah sectors of Doda district.

Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed grief over the killings and criticized the government’s response. He stated that the solution to these attacks lies in decisive action, not empty speeches or false promises. Gandhi condemned the cowardly attacks on the Indian Army and highlighted the seriousness of the situation, describing the attack as a grave blow to national security and the lives of soldiers.
