Five men have been booked for allegedly gang-raping a 34-year-old woman and forcing her to dance naked in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The incident allegedly occurred on June 11th, but the police only registered an FIR on Monday, August 21st, after a directive from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The woman had initially filed a complaint on July 17th at Kanadia police station, but alleged that the police took no action. She subsequently approached the High Court, which on August 14th, ordered the police to investigate the complaint and dispose of it within 90 days.
According to the FIR, the accused allegedly took the victim to a godown, raped her, and performed unnatural sex after watching videos on television. She was also allegedly beaten with a belt and forced to dance naked for half an hour.
The police have registered a case against the five accused under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. A detailed investigation is underway, but no arrests have been made so far.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhinay Vishwakarma stated that appropriate legal steps will be taken based on the evidence.
The case has ignited political debate, with the Congress accusing the BJP of pressuring the police to delay the FIR due to one of the accused being associated with the ruling party. State BJP spokesperson Narendra Saluja has denied these allegations, stating that justice will be served and that both parties have filed complaints against each other.
