Get ready for a literary feast! The 22nd International Literary Festival of Paraty (Flip 2024) has just unveiled its jam-packed program and star-studded guest list, promising an unforgettable celebration of words and ideas.
Held from October 9th to 13th in the charming town of Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, Flip has established itself as a cornerstone of the Brazilian literary calendar. This year, under the expert curatorship of Ana Lima Cecilio, the festival will bring together a diverse and fascinating array of authors.
Among the confirmed participants are the best-selling Brazilian novelist Carla Madeira, known for her captivating novel ‘Tudo é Rio’; Senegalese author Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, winner of the prestigious Goncourt Prize for his acclaimed work ‘The Most Secret Memory of Men’; and Italian writer Lisa Ginzburg, whose latest novel ‘Cara Paz’ has garnered critical acclaim. The guest list also boasts the presence of French author Édouard Louis, known for his powerful works like ‘The End of Eddy’, and Brazilian author Geni Nunes, whose book ‘Felizes Por Enquanto: Escritos Sobre Outros Mundos Possíveis’ explores themes of social justice and alternative realities.
Adding a unique dimension to the event is the inclusion of Brazilian influencer Felipe Neto, who will join the lineup to discuss the complex relationship between social media and politics. He will engage in a thought-provoking conversation with renowned journalist Patrícia Campos Mello, who has bravely faced the challenges of fake news.
The festival will feature a total of 35 authors, with 15 hailing from different corners of the globe. This year’s special honoree is João do Rio, the pseudonym of Paulo Barreto (1881-1921), a prominent writer of early 20th-century Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile, indigenous leader Raoni Metuktire will grace the festival with his presence, engaging in a dialogue with fellow activist Txai Suruí, highlighting the importance of indigenous voices and perspectives.

Other compelling discussions include the exploration of female autonomy with Lisa Ginzburg and Ana Margarida de Carvalho, the complexities of hate speech on social media with Patrícia Campos Mello and Felipe Neto, and the legacy of indigenous leadership with Raoni Metuktire and Txai Suruí.
