FLO, a leading North American electric vehicle (EV) charging company, is expanding its curbside charging network in Boston with a new project that will deploy up to 120 FLO Core+ MAX Level 2 chargers throughout the city. This initiative is part of Boston’s commitment to having every resident live within a 5-minute walk of an EV charging station, a key step in transitioning to a greener future.
The first phase of the project will see the installation of FLO chargers in 30 locations across Boston, with a particular focus on historically underserved communities. These strategic placements near parks, playgrounds, libraries, and small businesses aim to ensure that charging infrastructure is accessible to all residents, regardless of their location or income level.
“The FLO chargers in Boston will be located near parks, playgrounds, libraries and small businesses. They will truly become part of the communities and will be critical as EV adoption grows in the city,” said Louis Tremblay, FLO President and CEO. “All drivers deserve access to reliable home and home-alternative EV charging infrastructure. We need to pay particular attention to drivers living in urban, multi-family housing, who often face limited home charging options. This deployment will ensure curbside charging will be located where it is needed the most and bring cost savings and reliability benefits to more drivers.”
The project is being implemented by Better Together Brain Trust (BT2), a Black, woman-owned business selected by the City of Boston to install and maintain these city-owned charging stations. BT2 is committed to ensuring equitable access to EV charging benefits and understanding the communities’ views on charging.

The Boston deployment will feature FLO’s CoRe+ MAX chargers, assembled at FLO’s Auburn Hills, Michigan facility. These chargers deliver a maximum power output of 19.2 kW, charging up to 2.7 times faster than a typical Level 2 charging station.

This initiative marks the latest expansion of FLO’s curbside charging network, with similar projects underway in New York City, Los Angeles, and Cleveland. In Los Angeles, over 480 FLO chargers have been installed on utility light poles as part of an innovative curbside charging project.
