FLO Expands EV Charging Network in Northeast Ohio with 73 New Stations

FLO, a leading North American electric vehicle (EV) charging company, is making a significant investment in Northeast Ohio’s burgeoning EV infrastructure. The company is installing 73 curbside and fast chargers in the greater Cleveland area, marking the beginning of a larger project that will bring more charging options to the region. This initiative is part of the Northeast Ohio Area-wide Coordinating Agency’s (NOACA) Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program, a project aimed at expanding EV charging accessibility and supporting the transition to clean transportation.

This first phase of the program includes deploying 54 Level 2 CoRe+ stations and 19 Level 3 SmartDC fast charging stations throughout the area. These charging stations are strategically placed to cater to the increasing number of EV drivers in Ohio, offering both convenient and reliable options for various vehicles.

FLO partnered with Alternalite EV, an Ohio-based electrical contractor specializing in EV charging installations, and SAF, a general construction company based in Akron, Ohio. Both companies are certified minority-owned businesses committed to providing safe, reliable, and customer-centric solutions.

“With the surging popularity of electric vehicles, FLO is committed to ensuring that the U.S.’s EV infrastructure keeps pace with demand,” said Louis Tremblay, President and CEO of FLO. “This initiative in Northeast Ohio represents a significant step towards a future where EV charging is convenient and dependable, supporting the transition to clean transportation for all.”

NOACA secured nearly $4 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality program for this project. Additionally, NOACA received a $15 million grant from the U.S. DOT for Phase 2 of the Electric Vehicle Charging Station Program, highlighting the strong commitment to expanding EV infrastructure in Northeast Ohio.

The initial FLO charging stations in the Greater Cleveland area are already operational, and all 73 planned installations are expected to be completed by December 31, 2024. This expansion of FLO’s network in Northeast Ohio is a major step towards making electric vehicle ownership more accessible and convenient for residents in the region, contributing to the broader goals of sustainable transportation and a cleaner environment.
