Floods Ravage Afghanistan, Death Toll Crosses 350

Afghanistan has been battered by relentless rainfall and severe flooding, leading to a staggering loss of life and widespread devastation. The death toll has climbed to over 350, with at least 50 people losing their lives in the central province of Ghor alone.

The relentless downpour has wreaked havoc, destroying roads and isolating remote areas. Homes have been damaged, agricultural land has been submerged, and hundreds of livestock have perished. The International Rescue Committee reports that hundreds of thousands have been left stranded and without access to essential services.

Mawlawi Abdul Hai Zaem, the head of the information department for Ghor province, reported the grim death toll but noted that the number of injured remains unknown. The torrential rains have also caused extensive damage to infrastructure, hampering rescue efforts and aid distribution.

Afghanistan is reeling from the impact of the heavy rainfall, which has affected several provinces, including Badakhshan, Baghlan, Herat, and Ghor. The World Food Programme had previously reported that the death toll from flooding had surpassed 300, and the recent loss of life in Ghor pushes that number even higher.

Organizations such as the World Food Programme and the International Rescue Committee are mobilizing to provide assistance to survivors. The country’s interim government and international organizations are urged to step up their efforts to address the challenges faced by those affected and provide support to the affected communities.
