The Cleveland Browns’ offseason moves indicate their desire for a plethora of wideout weapons for Deshaun Watson. Adding to their wide receiver corps in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft is a distinct possibility. Should they opt to draft a wide receiver, Florida State’s Johnny Wilson, regarded as a major X-factor, could be a viable option.
Wilson possesses the ideal frame for a wide receiver, standing at an imposing 6-foot-6 and weighing 231 pounds. Despite his physical attributes, his potential for NFL stardom remained untapped during his two years at Arizona State. However, upon transferring to Florida State, he seamlessly integrated into the offense.
Wilson concluded the 2022 season with 43 receptions for 897 yards (20.9 per reception) and five touchdowns, ranking seventh in yards in the Atlantic Coastal Conference and earning a second-team All-ACC nod. While his production declined slightly in 2023, he still hauled in 41 passes for 617 yards (15.0 per reception) and two touchdowns. His NFL combine results were respectable but not exceptional, with a 4.55 in the 40-yard dash.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein describes Wilson as an “enormous target with an elite catch radius.” However, he notes that Wilson is still developing his skills and learning to fully utilize his physical advantages. Despite his inconsistent college production, Wilson’s potential and the Browns’ need for wide receiver depth make him a legitimate consideration in the upcoming NFL Draft.
