Florida Zoo Mourns the Passing of Juliet, an Elderly Manatee

Juliet, believed to be one of the world’s oldest manatees, died aged 65 on Sunday 21 April. The Miami Seaquarium, where she spent decades before being moved to ZooTampa, announced her passing. Weighing in at more than 3,000 pounds, Juliet was rescued back in 1956 along with her soon-to-be mate Romeo. In December 2022, with the help of a crane, tarps, a large truck, and dozens of workers, both Romeo and Juliet were taken to their new home at ZooTampa. Sadly, Juliet’s condition rapidly declined in recent days, and she passed away early on Sunday morning. The zoo is mourning the loss of such a beloved resident.
