Former Aurora Farmer’s Fair Treasurer Charged with Theft After Stealing Over $70,000
An investigation by the Indiana State Police (ISP) has led to the arrest of the former treasurer of the Aurora Farmer’s Fair, 54-year-old Scott A. Petty, of Moores Hill, Indiana. Petty has been charged with a felony count of theft after investigators determined he stole over $70,000 from the Fair’s bank accounts.
According to a press release from ISP, the investigation was launched in March after it was reported that money was missing from the Farmers Fair bank accounts. Investigators determined that Petty had made multiple unauthorized purchases with funds intended for the annual event, which is held each fall in Aurora, Indiana.
Petty allegedly used the Farmers Fair credit card and bank account to pay for personal vacations, bills, car payments, and other miscellaneous items. ISP stated that Petty had spent over $70,000 of the funds intended for the Farmers Fair for his own personal gain.
Petty turned himself in to Dearborn County law enforcement on Monday and is currently facing a felony count of theft. The Aurora Farmer’s Fair has not yet commented on the arrest, and further details about the case are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
