Pakistan’s former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief, Lt Gen (retd.) Faiz Hameed, has been arrested by the military. This arrest comes ahead of his court martial in connection with a housing scheme scandal. The army announced the arrest on Monday, citing compliance with an order from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The military had conducted a detailed court of inquiry, as instructed by the Supreme Court, to investigate complaints regarding the Top City Case, which involved allegations against Lt Gen (retd.) Faiz Hameed. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the army, stated that appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Hameed under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act.
Reports indicate that the military formed an inquiry committee in April to delve into allegations of misuse of authority against the former ISI chief. Lt Gen (retd.) Hameed was considered a highly influential figure during his tenure as head of the spy agency from 2019 to 2021. His arrest and impending court martial highlight the seriousness of the allegations against him and the potential consequences of his actions during his time in office.
