A Bengaluru court on Wednesday delivered a blow to former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna’s legal battle, rejecting his bail plea in connection with multiple charges of rape and sexual harassment. The 33-year-old politician, who is currently in the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate these allegations, faces a significant hurdle in his fight for release.
The case against Revanna gained considerable public attention after explicit video clips purportedly featuring him surfaced online just prior to the recent Lok Sabha elections. These clips, which allegedly depicted Revanna engaging in sexual acts, triggered a wave of controversy and spurred investigations into his alleged misconduct.
Revanna, however, maintains that the videos are fabricated and part of a smear campaign against him. He has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct, asserting his innocence in the face of the accusations. Despite his claims, the court has ruled against his bail application, leaving him in the custody of the SIT as the investigation continues.
Prajwal Revanna, who is also the third youngest member of parliament in India, previously served as a member of the 17th Lok Sabha representing the Hassan Constituency. His political career has been overshadowed by the recent allegations, raising concerns about his future in public life. The court’s decision to deny bail adds another layer of complexity to this high-profile case, with the focus now shifting to the investigation and the potential for further legal proceedings against Revanna.
