Former Pune Corporator Brutally Murdered in Targeted Attack

A shocking incident unfolded in Pune’s Nana Peth area on Sunday night, leaving the city in shock and raising serious questions about the state’s law and order situation. Vanraj Andekar, a former corporator of the Pune Municipal Corporation, was brutally murdered in a targeted attack by a group of 12 assailants riding on six motorcycles. The attack, which was captured on CCTV footage now circulating on social media, involved multiple rounds being fired at Andekar and a vicious assault using sharp weapons. The attack resulted in grievous injuries to Andekar’s head and neck, leading to his untimely demise.

According to the police, the attack occurred around 9:30 PM on Sunday. “Five rounds were fired at Vanraj Andekar. He was also attacked with long-blade sickles. He was brought dead to the KEM Hospital. As per the primary information, Andekar suffered multiple sharp weapon injuries. Further details will be given in due course,” said Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma. Andekar’s body was later sent to Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem examination.

In a swift response to the horrific incident, the Pune Police have arrested three suspects in connection with Andekar’s murder. Two of the suspects were apprehended by the local police, while the third accused was nabbed by the crime branch. “Witnesses claim some shots were fired but Andekar succumbed to injuries inflicted on his head and neck by sharp weapons. An empty cartridge was found in the deceased’s clothing,” stated Additional Commissioner of Police Pravin Patil.

The police investigation has revealed a chilling motive behind the attack – an ongoing family dispute. The police strongly suspect that a relative of Andekar, who is in his late 30s, orchestrated the attack. Andekar’s family members have filed a First Information Report (FIR) naming nine individuals and five others as suspects, pointing fingers at the relative as the mastermind behind the murder.

Andekar, who was formerly associated with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), had served as a corporator in the Pune Municipal Corporation. His death has sent shockwaves through the political circles, with NCP leader and former state home minister Anil Deshmukh criticizing the law and order situation in the state. Deshmukh expressed concerns about the deteriorating security situation and questioned the state Home Minister’s attention towards maintaining law and order.

The investigation into Andekar’s murder is ongoing, with the Pune Police determined to bring all the culprits to justice. The horrifying incident has highlighted the need for stricter measures to ensure public safety and prevent such brutal acts of violence from occurring in the future.
