In a significant development, the West Bengal Medical Council has cancelled the medical registration of former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh. This action comes amidst an ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Kolkata rape-murder case, in which Ghosh is a key suspect.
The council had previously issued a show-cause notice to Ghosh, demanding an explanation as to why his medical registration should not be revoked. This move followed a similar request from the West Bengal chapter of the Indian Medical Association.
On September 19, the council officially removed Ghosh’s name from the list of Registered Medical Practitioners. The cancellation of his license was executed under various provisions of the Bengal Medical Act.
Currently, Ghosh remains in CBI custody following his arrest in connection with the high-profile Kolkata case. The cancellation of his medical registration signifies a major setback for the former principal and highlights the gravity of the accusations against him.
