Former Rutgers Guard Jillian Huerter Transfers to Fairfield University

Former Rutgers guard Jillian Huerter has decided to continue her basketball career at Fairfield University, a member of the esteemed Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Huerter, a freshman sharpshooter, made a significant impact during her time with the Scarlet Knights, averaging 6.9 points per game and knocking down an impressive 57 three-pointers. Her contributions were recognized when she earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors during the first week of February.

Huerter joins a Fairfield program that enjoyed a remarkable 31-2 season last year, earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Stags dominated the MAAC, going undefeated in conference play and capturing both the regular season and tournament championships. Notably, they defeated Rutgers 78-54 in their previous encounter, with Huerter making three three-pointers and scoring nine points against her future team.

Rutgers has been actively addressing the roster changes brought on by players entering the NCAA transfer portal. Sophomore guard Kaylene Smikle opted to join Big Ten rival Maryland, while senior Erica Lafayette committed to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for her final year of eligibility. To bolster their roster, the Scarlet Knights have secured the services of graduate transfer JoJo Lacey from Boston College and highly touted five-star guard Kiyomi McMiller from the Class of 2024. Additionally, they have landed four-star recruit Zacahara Perkins of Summer Creek High School in Houston, Texas, who signed with the program in November. Perkins is the daughter of former New Jersey high school basketball star and WNBA champion DeMya Walker-Wheatfall.
