Formula 1 is introducing a revised points system and proposing the implementation of permanent stewards.
The new points system will extend to the top 12 finishers, allocating points to two additional positions compared to the current system. This change aims to enhance the competition in the midfield and provide greater incentive for lower-ranked teams.
To ensure consistency in decision-making, F1 expert Karun Chandhok has suggested that the additional revenue generated from the expanded points system should be used to fund permanent stewards. Currently, volunteer stewards are employed on a rotational basis, which can lead to variations in interpretations and penalties. Chandhok believes that having the same stewards throughout the season will promote greater consistency.
The proposed changes have received support from teams across the grid, including top teams like Ferrari and Red Bull. The midfield teams, in particular, are enthusiastic about the potential to gain more points and improve their overall competitiveness.
The new points system and permanent stewards are expected to enhance the fairness and consistency of Formula 1, making it an even more exciting and competitive sport.
