A tragic road accident in Sikkim claimed the lives of four Indian Army personnel on Thursday. The group, belonging to a unit from Binaguri in West Bengal, was traveling from Pedong in Kalimpong district to Zuluk along the Silk Route when the accident occurred in Pakyong District.
The deceased were identified as driver Pradeep Patel from Madhya Pradesh, craftsman W Peter from Manipur, Naik Gursev Singh from Haryana, and Subedar K Thangapandi from Tamil Nadu. The incident highlights the dangers faced by military personnel even during routine travel.
This unfortunate event follows a series of security incidents across India. In Telangana, six cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) were killed in an exchange of fire with security personnel. Two Greyhound commandos, members of the elite anti-naxal force of Telangana Police, were injured during the clash and taken to a hospital. The incident took place in the forest area of Mothe village after the Maoists opened fire on a patrolling police party.
In Jammu, an Army soldier was injured when terrorists opened fire at the Sunjwan military station. The terrorists fired from a distance outside the base, demonstrating the ongoing security challenges faced by the military in the region.
Despite these incidents, the Indian Army has also achieved significant successes in recent weeks. Last week, three terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in Machhal and Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir were eliminated. Intelligence agencies and local police had received information about potential infiltration attempts, leading to ambushes being laid by Indian Army troops, JKP, and BSF on likely infiltration routes. These successful operations highlight the vigilance and preparedness of the security forces in protecting India’s borders.
