Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait Secures Prestigious LEED Platinum Certification

The Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya has set a new standard for responsible tourism and hospitality in the Middle East by becoming the first and only hotel in Kuwait to secure Platinum certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). This prestigious certification, recognized globally, underscores the hotel’s dedication to a sustainable future and its adherence to the most rigorous green building rating system available.

The hotel’s LEED Platinum status reflects not only its commitment to environmental responsibility but also the broader sustainability efforts of the 140,000-square-meter Burj Alshaya complex, which includes the Alshaya Group’s headquarters and numerous business offices. This complex now stands as one of only two structures in Kuwait to earn the highest LEED Platinum certification, surpassing Silver and Gold levels.

Since its opening in 2017, Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya has embraced modern Middle Eastern design and sustainability, implementing various on-site measures that have contributed to its LEED Platinum achievement. These measures include on-site water bottling, comprehensive recycling programs, AI-enhanced waste management, elimination of single-use plastics and Styrofoam, as well as meticulous monitoring of energy usage and carbon footprint.

Martin Kipping, General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya, emphasizes the deep commitment that both Alshaya Group and Four Seasons share for environmental stewardship and sustainability. He highlights that the LEED Platinum certification is a testament to the efforts of the entire hotel team and guests who actively support the creation of a greener future. To further promote sustainable practices, the hotel provides complimentary e-charging stations for electric vehicles, offers eco-friendly key cards, and plans to introduce its first e-limousine in 2024.

LEED certification, established by the US Green Building Council in 1998, has become a globally recognized symbol of sustainability excellence. It takes a holistic approach, encompassing all aspects that contribute to a building’s environmental performance. LEED-certified buildings aim to mitigate climate change, enhance human health, conserve water, protect biodiversity, promote sustainable material cycles, and improve the overall quality of life for communities.

In addition to its environmental initiatives, Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya actively engages with the community to foster responsible hospitality. In 2023, the hotel organized numerous community events, including activities at the Bayt Abdullah Children’s Hospice and a beach cleanup that restored the local shoreline.

As a global leader in luxury hospitality, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts manages a portfolio of 130 hotels and 54 residential properties across 47 countries. The LEED Platinum certification is a prestigious international recognition of Four Seasons’ unwavering dedication to maintaining the highest standards of hospitality while fostering a sustainable and responsible future.
