Four Seasons Seychelles Partners with Sanaa for Sustainable and Artistic Glasses

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles and its Desroches Island counterpart have joined forces with Sanaa, a Tanzanian enterprise that creates artisanal glasses from recycled materials. Each piece is a vibrant testament to craftsmanship, dedication, and environmental stewardship. At the Desroches Island location, these unique glasses enhance the guest experience in each room, while at the main Seychelles resort, they add a touch of charm to the beachfront dining experience.

Sanaa’s core mission is to uplift individuals with disabilities by nurturing their artistic talents and supporting their contribution to a sustainable planet. The company is a pioneer in environmental conservation, utilizing repurposed materials that help protect nature and bolster local Tanzanian enterprises. Sanaa’s work not only promotes ecological responsibility but also bolsters the local economy, creating a dual impact that benefits both society and the environment.

The partnership with Four Seasons Resorts Seychelles reflects a shared commitment to fostering unique talents and supporting meaningful causes. Sanaa proudly states on their platforms, ‘Proceeds are used for all charitable projects that Sanaa supports. Our artisans are proud to be the breadwinners for their families and in turn generate funds to support other people in need!’

Renan Astolpho, General Manager at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles, passionately talks about the introduction of these glasses at his Resort. ‘I really commend Sanaa’s eco-conscious approach in creating these homemade glasses for our Resorts. Their sustainable practices exemplify a harmonious blend of craftmanship and environmental stewardship, enriching our guests’ experience with every sip,’ he mentions.

The Tanzanian group Sanaa comments, ‘We’ve all seen the magic of glass blowing – the practice of shaping a mass of glass that has been softened by heat by blowing air into it through a tube. Our artisans have taken this skill and turned it into a career. They’ve created everything from decorative pieces to everyday items – from wine glasses to decanters, jugs, door knobs, lamps, sculpture and chandeliers – that the local community adores. Livingstone, one of our craftsmen, is one of Tanzania’s only deaf glassblowers.’

This partnership is part of Four Seasons Resorts in Seychelles’ broader commitment to sustainability. The initiatives range from coral reef restoration to adopting solar power and preserving native wildlife, like the Aldabra giant tortoises on Desroches Island, emphasizing their pledge to ecological and community resilience.
