The relentless pursuit of a pack of wolves terrorizing residents in Uttar Pradesh has yielded another capture. On Thursday, the Forest Department successfully trapped a fourth wolf, marking a significant step in ‘Operation Bhediya’, a mission aimed at apprehending the animals responsible for a string of deadly attacks.
Over the past 45 days, these wolves have claimed the lives of eight people, including six children and one woman, and injured over 25 others in the Bahraich area. Their presence has cast a shadow of fear over the lives of 50,000 individuals residing in the affected villages.
‘Operation Bhediya’ is employing a multifaceted approach to track down the remaining wolves, leveraging advanced technologies such as drone cameras and thermal drone mapping. The forest department has also obtained permission from the chief wildlife warden to tranquillize the animals, signifying the seriousness of the situation.
The exact number of wolves in the area remains a point of uncertainty. However, the forest department has deployed 16 teams, along with 12 district-level officers, to track down the remaining wolves. Additional Principal Chief Forest Conservator Renu Singh is stationed on-site and will remain there until all the wolves are apprehended. The successful capture of the fourth wolf provides a glimmer of hope, but the operation is far from over. The tireless efforts of the forest department will continue until all threats to the safety of the residents are neutralized.
