Frankfurt Airport Gears Up for Winter with Expanded Flight Network and New Destinations

Frankfurt Airport is gearing up for a busy winter season, with an expanded flight network and a host of new destinations taking off on October 27, 2024. This year, 79 airlines will be offering passenger flights to 243 destinations across 93 countries, making Frankfurt a truly global aviation hub.

With over 3,600 flights per week and a total of 675,000 available seats, Frankfurt Airport is seeing a four percent increase in capacity compared to last year, which was impacted by strikes. This growth reinforces Frankfurt’s position as Germany’s leading international aviation hub, boasting the most intercontinental destinations. The winter flight schedule will be in effect until March 29, 2025.

This winter, travelers can expect an increase in flights to destinations in Northern Europe. Lufthansa is introducing a new route to Rovaniemi, Finland, the official home of Santa Claus, known for its captivating Northern Lights. Discover Airlines is also expanding its Scandinavian services, adding flights to Kittilä in Finland and Alta in Norway. These new destinations in Europe’s far north will be served twice a week from Frankfurt starting in late November (Lufthansa) and mid-December (Discover), making them perfect for a winter getaway.

Beyond Europe, Discover Airlines is extending its services to Ibiza for the winter season, making it a year-round destination. Weekly flights to Ibiza will take off on Saturdays.

In the long-haul category, Condor and Discover Airlines are expanding their connections to Latin America. Condor will be operating two weekly flights to Los Cabos, Mexico, and will be adding an intermediate stop on the Caribbean island of Antigua to its existing service to Punta Cana. Discover Airlines is set to begin serving Tulum, Mexico, twice a week starting December 12, making Frankfurt the only European airport offering direct flights to this popular destination.

Lufthansa will continue its services to Raleigh-Durham and Minneapolis-St. Paul, which debuted this past summer, throughout the winter season.

In the Far East, Condor is boosting its service to Thailand with two new destinations. Since late September, four flights have been taking off to Phuket. Condor is also complementing the two daily Thai Airways flights to Bangkok with five weekly connections. The Korean airline T’way Air is adding four weekly flights to Seoul, joining the existing Lufthansa, Asiana Airlines, and Korean Air services, bringing the total number of weekly connections to the South Korean capital to 19.

Etihad Airways is set to increase its winter timetable to twelve weekly flights starting in December and will add two daily flights to Abu Dhabi from February 2025.

As of October 27, Vistara will be moving from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1. Starting November 11, following the merger of Vistara and Air India, all flights will be operated under Air India flight numbers. Air India will offer 14 weekly flights to New Delhi and seven connections to Mumbai.

SAS Scandinavian Airlines, a new member of the SkyTeam alliance since September, will move from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 at the start of the winter timetable on October 27.

Frankfurt Airport is poised for a busy and exciting winter season, offering travelers a wide variety of destinations and increased frequency to some of the world’s most sought-after travel spots. Whether you’re dreaming of a winter wonderland in Scandinavia, a sun-soaked escape to the Caribbean, or an adventure in Asia, Frankfurt Airport has something for everyone.
