Free Entry for Under-18s at Women’s T20 World Cup in UAE: ICC Aims for Larger Crowds

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is pulling out all the stops to ensure a thrilling and well-attended Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. To attract larger crowds, especially young fans, the ICC has announced free entry for anyone under 18 years of age during the tournament. The event, set to take place from October 3rd to 20th, will feature a total of 23 matches over 18 days, with ticket prices starting from just five dirhams (approximately Rs 115).

The 10-team tournament will see 20 league matches split between Dubai and Sharjah, with one semifinal scheduled for Sharjah and the remaining semifinal and final taking place in Dubai. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that the decision to offer free entry for younger fans is part of a plan to leave a lasting legacy for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 – the first global women’s cricket event to be hosted in the region.

Allardice highlighted the UAE’s diverse population, stating, “One of the exciting things about the UAE is its diversity. It’s a place where the entire world is represented. This means that this is effectively a home World Cup for all 10 teams and players can enjoy the support of passionate fans.”

He also expressed the ICC’s commitment to working with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and the Dubai Sports Council to ensure a successful and impactful event. Zaid Abbas, ECB Board Member, echoed this sentiment, stating that the ECB will work closely with the ICC and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) – the original host of the tournament – to ensure a memorable experience for both participants and fans.

The tournament will see two groups competing: Group A features six-time champions Australia alongside India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland. With free entry for under-18s and affordable ticket prices, the ICC is setting the stage for a truly exciting and accessible Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.
