Fried Tosses First Nine-Inning Complete Game for Braves in Dominating 5-0 Win Over Marlins

Atlanta Braves pitcher Max Fried showcased his dominance on Tuesday, delivering a three-hit complete game shutout against the Miami Marlins, securing a 5-0 victory for his team. This marked the Braves’ first nine-inning complete game since 2022 and the fourth complete game in Major League Baseball this season.

Fried’s masterful performance featured 69 of 92 pitches for strikes, six strikeouts, and no walks, requiring only 1 hour and 54 minutes to dispatch the Marlins. The Marlins, who dropped to 6-19, have now gone 20 innings without scoring a run and remain 0-for-Atlanta after Monday’s 3-0 shutout.

In the sixth inning, Adam Duvall broke open the game with his second homer of the season, extending Atlanta’s lead to 5-0 off Trevor Rogers (0-3). The Braves added two unearned runs in the second inning, with Michael Harris II and David Fletcher driving in runs off Lopez’s fielding error and a sacrifice fly, respectively.

Despite getting hit on the left arm by a pitch in the seventh inning, Braves’ Austin Riley remained in the game. Ozzie Albies is expected to return from the injured list on Friday for the weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians.

For the Marlins, LHP Josh Simpson underwent surgery to repair the ulnar nerve in his elbow and is expected to miss at least three months. RHP Reynaldo López (2-0, 0.50 ERA) will take to the mound for the Braves on Wednesday against the Marlins, who have yet to announce their starting pitcher for the series finale.
