Jessica McCormack, a renowned jewelry designer, never imagined her latest high jewelry collection, Tapestry, would become a viral summer sensation. This collection, featuring friendship bracelets embellished with diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds, has captured the imagination of fashionistas worldwide.
The trend of friendship bracelets lettered with song titles, popularized by Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, has taken the internet by storm. From celebrities like Selena Gomez and Sophie Turner to Vogue editors, everyone is embracing the charm of these simple yet stylish accessories. Even Vogue commerce writer Alice Cary crafted her own during a recent trip to Greece, using polished stones and chunky glass beads.
McCormack’s Tapestry collection, however, transcends the DIY aesthetic. While inspired by her childhood memories of creating friendship bracelets with her sisters, using colorful strings tied to furniture and car headrests, her creations are a testament to meticulous craftsmanship. The intricate clasps, resembling deployment buckles, took extensive development to achieve the desired ease of wear. “I really wanted you to be able to take it on and off by yourself,” McCormack explains.
McCormack’s initial research for Tapestry drew inspiration from the vibrant patterns of mini mosaics and the woven designs of old tapestries. This unexpected use of pattern and color for a jewelry designer known for her minimalist aesthetic reflects her commitment to creating wearable pieces. McCormack, who recently opened a pop-up space in Harrods, has long championed the concept of daytime diamonds. Her signature Gypset earrings, featuring delicate hoops adorned with blackened gold-set diamonds, heart-shaped sapphires, and Sardinian coral, seamlessly blend precious stones with casual style.
While the Tapestry collection draws on childhood nostalgia, McCormack chose two mature models from Germany and Paris for the accompanying campaign. “They represent the idea of a lifetime of friendship and the rich tapestry of life,” she explains with a smile. “I don’t have my family here with me in the UK, so my friends are literally my family. We always talk about living in a commune when we’re older.” McCormack’s Tapestry collection is a testament to her creative vision, seamlessly blending nostalgic charm with high-end craftsmanship, proving that friendship bracelets are no longer just a childhood pastime but a timeless and elegant fashion statement.
